GroundUp’s Brenton Geach shares a photo essay of the iconic Cape Town Minstrels who take to the streets each year to honour tradition.
Cape Town, South Africa (07 January 2026) – Hundreds of people were entertained in the annual Tweede Nuwe Jaar Festival in Green Point, Cape Town, on Monday, as Cape Minstrel troupes marched down Main Road.
According to the organisers, “The parade celebrates heritage, unity and the living tradition of the Kaapse Klopse.”
The street parade started at 11 am and was followed by competitions at the DHL Stadium.
