A photo taken in 2016 at a SPAR somewhere in South Africa has been trending again and the company has now seen it. They won’t have it and are hosting a pyjama party to prove they really don’t mind.
Since 2016, this image has been circulated around the internet as part of a giggle at some South African behaviours. More recently, it has become a trending topic and one of the people at SPAR decided to address the pyjama issue.
SPAR Western Cape has spoken out and ensured its shoppers that if they are comfy shopping in their pj’s, so is SPAR!
They went one up though and decided to throw a pyjama party to celebrate those brave enough to venture out the house in their comfy sleepwear.
While some stores have been known to have an issue with this style of clothing, the Western Cape SPAR ensures, it won’t be an issue and is addressing any concerns on their Facebook page.
“The SPAR Group released a response in 2016 stating that this post was in no way endorsed by any of their stores and that SPAR in no way prescribes how shoppers should dress when visiting their stores. SPAR is aware of the discussion on 567 Cape Talk on Monday and the recent activity on Facebook over the weekend.”“Our SPAR Retailers in the Western Cape immediately back the initiative to put paid to any rumours to the contrary, we’re declaring FriYay 25 May as PJ day! Coz it’s not about what you wear. It’s about where you shop.”“I can safely confirm that none of their stores hold a dress code of this nature and certainly not the retailers at SPAR Sea Point.” -Mario Santana, Managing Director, SPAR Western Cape
I have personally ventured to my local SPAR in my comfy pyjamas before (because, winter…) and just worn a sensible jacket over them.
“Who says you can’t shop in your PJs? Certainly not us. And to put paid to any rumours to the contrary, we’re declaring FriYay 25 May as PJ day! Between 8 and 10 am, pop into any of our stores in your pyjamas and enjoy a cup of coffee on us. #SPARPJDay Coz it’s not about what you wear. It’s about where you shop. This offer is valid for 25 May at Western Cape SPAR stores only.” – Western Cape SPAR
