While touring South Africa, the England women’s cricket team embraces the country’s famous braai culture in a video shared online.

South Africa (08 March 2026) – The England women’s national cricket team recently shared a light-hearted moment from their time in South Africa, and it involved one of the country’s most loved traditions: a braai.

Moments like these are part of what makes travelling through South Africa memorable for visiting teams. Beyond the matches and training sessions, there is always time to experience a bit of local culture.

In a short video, one player is seen standing in line waiting to be served. The player joked that they were about to enjoy “a barbecue”, before quickly correcting herself with a laugh, noting that in South Africa you would never call it that. Because here, it’s a braai and locals take that distinction seriously.

Like many visitors before her, she seemed to appreciate the simple joy that comes with the experience: good food, the smell of meat cooking over coals and the easy social vibe that comes with it.

At one point, she even hinted that she might be going back for seconds. Braais are distinctly South African, but visitors are quickly made to feel at home.
