Themba Robin’s latest video taps into the universal challenge of becoming a functioning member of society after December, showing the difference in energy when leaving for vacation versus coming back in January.
South Africa (07 January 2026) – January has officially reminded everyone that December energy does not transfer into the new year.
South African comedian Themba Robin summed up the struggle perfectly in a video about logging back into work after the festive break. One moment, it’s a closed laptop, ready yo go on holiday. Next, it’s January and suddenly opening that same laptop feels like hard labour.
With sunglasses still on, a sun hat in place and a random vuvuzela, Themba shows just how different you feel when you return to work after weeks of switching off. Now the beach days are over and the inbox is full. After all those weeks of tanning, enjoying malva pudding and attending braais everyday it’s now time to be a functioning member of society once again.
It’s a moment many South Africans are relating to right now, especially in these first few weeks of the year when everyone is slowly easing back into work.
Logging out in December and logging back in in January? Two very different people.
Whether we’re ready or not, January has arrived with emails, meetings and responsibilities. Kind regards to everyone slowly finding their feet again.
