Meet Jannie de Clerk, the viticulturist at Groote Post Vineyards; he hilariously shows off his “Old Man Blend” as a clap back to Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery’s recent viral post on Merlot Day.
Darling, South Africa (19 November 2021) – South Africa is the best place in the world! Our people are hilarious and this was proven recently when a social media battle of the wines took place. It all started a few weeks ago when we shared a post by the Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery.
The Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery in Durbanville, Western Cape, shared a post in celebration of International Merlot Day, using it to introduce their viticulturist to the world, and the world nearly melted!
A viticulturist specialises in the cultivation or culture of grapes, especially for winemaking. Viticulturists with advanced degrees are often found developing, breeding, and evaluating new varieties of grapes.
Nicol De Villiers developed the Nicol Merlot, which has fast become a favourite with guests and visitors at the vineyard. The vineyard shared the post along with a message celebrating men’s health in November and advocating that a glass of merlot is Cape Town’s best-kept health secret.
Well… The Groote Post Vineyards, in Darling Western Cape, was having none of it! They stepped forward to introduce their own viticulturist. Meet Jannie de Clerk.
Jannie developed his “Old Man Blend” and a few other delights! The Old Man Blend is quoted as being a very approachable wine.
We absolutely adore both vineyards for having fun with their team and the wines they make. It has brought a smile and laugh to the whole Good Things Guy team today!
