Everyone has ‘that’ one pair of socks covered in avocados, flamingos or wild colour combos just waiting for their moment. Their time has come!
South Africa (15 June 2026) – Funky Socks Day is back for its fifth year, inviting South Africans to pull on their brightest socks and help make a difference in the lives of children across Southern Africa.
For five years, the campaign has been using colourful socks to bring attention to causes that support children across Southern Africa. Along the way, it has become a much-loved annual tradition! Schools get involved. Offices get involved. Families get involved. Every year, a simple pair of socks helps raise funds for causes that matter.
Last year, South Africans and Namibians raised an incredible R2 million through the campaign. Those funds went on to support organisations working to improve children’s lives through education, literacy and care.
This year, the goal is even bigger. The 2026 campaign launches on Youth Day and aims to raise R2.5 million before National Funky Socks Day takes place on 11 September.
The funds raised will support Breadline Africa, Rally to Read and Matla a Bana, three organisations doing important work for children.
For Breadline Africa, the campaign helps provide educational resource packs to early childhood development centres in under-resourced communities. Last year’s support helped fund 50 packs filled with learning materials and stationery, giving little learners more opportunities to learn through play.
“There is something incredibly joyful about Funky Socks Day,” says Marion Wagner, CEO of Breadline Africa.
“It reminds us that doing good does not always have to feel heavy. Sometimes it looks like bright socks and laughter in a classroom. Sometimes it looks like people showing up for children they may never meet, simply because they care.”
Not every fundraiser asks much of us. This one asks for a R10 sticker, a pair of funky socks and excitement to look silly for a really good reason.
