When their local SPCA put out an urgent call for help, the Germiston and Bedfordview communities answered in a big way, rallying together to smash donation targets!
Germiston, South Africa (17 July 2026) – Oh, how our people show up! When pleas went out to support the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA and its Charity Shop with donations to help keep its doors open, the community didn’t hesitate to answer.
A week ago, local community leaders and councillors informed residents that the SPCA was rallying to raise R50,000, 500kg of food, and five trailer loads of goods to sell in their charity shop. As these messages spread online and throughout the neighbourhood, the people of Germiston and Bedfordview showed up in a big way – and in a matter of days!
Not only did they come through with both monetary and in-kind donations, but they also far exceeded the SPCA’s expectations, leaving our local animal heroes absolutely blown away.
By the numbers, an incredible six tons of food and six trailer loads of charity shop goods have been donated, while R25,000 has been raised in funds so far.
“Over the past few days, we have been truly overwhelmed by the incredible kindness and generosity shown by our community following a fundraising initiative by Cllr Kade Guerreiro,” the Germiston SPCA said.
Guerreiro himself also thanked the residents whose support for their local SPCA will enable them to continue fighting for vulnerable animals and their welfare.
“I am truly humbled and can only thank every individual, business, and organisation that made this fundraiser successful,” he said.
The animal welfare society added that every donation received will go a long way in helping them continue to rescue, treat, feed, shelter, and care for vulnerable animals who have nowhere else to turn.
As the grateful team put it:
“At times it is difficult to find the right words to express just how grateful we are. Please know that every act of kindness has made a real and meaningful difference. To every single person, family, and business that has supported the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA, thank you. Whether you donated food, blankets, items for our Charity Shop, or funds, please know that your support means more than words can express.”
Well done, Germiston Bedfordview! What a compassionate and caring community you are.
