South Africa (05 January 2023) – As we have learned over the last few years, it is always a mistake to assume the year is going to be anything specific but we say heck to that! This year is going to be a good year because it is already filled with so many good things to look forward to.

We have compiled a list of 23 things to look forward to in 2023 and we just know you will love them as much as we do.

What are you looking forward to this year?

  1. 2023 is the year of REALLY good music! There are so many incredible artists setting out on tour and adding South African dates; think the likes of Sting, UB40, Counting Crows and Imagine Dragons.
  2. There are FIVE long weekends this year! That is a very exciting thing. You can find all the dates here.
  3. South Africa is hosting the 2023 Netball World Cup!!!
  4. In other sporting news, we can look forward to the Rugby World Cup where the Springboks will attempt to hold onto their 2019 title; we have the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India, so fingers crossed for the Proteas too.
  5. There are loads of good movies coming this year: The absolutely outrageous Cocaine Bear, several Marvel movies will be dropping this year, the highly anticipated Avatar 2, another Fast and Furious, Scream and Transformers (looks like another year of franchise success) and let us not forget the action classics, Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones. Oh, and BARBIE!!!
  6. The skies plan to put on a show this year; we can expect eclipses, meteor showers, a real blue moon and so much more! Be sure to check out the South African Astronomical Observatory for all the details related to events in the Southern Hemisphere.
  7. Weather-wise, we are still in a La Niña state, which means we are again in for a wet year. This is somewhat good news as SA is a drought-prone country.
  8. Good Food – South Africa is home to some award-winning restaurants and not to mention, delicious cuisines so you can bet we can look forward to celebrating more of our food here and internationally.
  9. There are many reasons to celebrate, whether it be food days, official United Nations days or animal and environmental days. There is definitely a reason to celebrate every day this year.
  10. In the Chinese calendar, its the year of Rabbit. According to the Zodiac, rabbits are gentle, quiet, skillful, kind and very responsible – It is safe to say these are all attributes we would like to see for 2023.
  11. In 2023, we are setting intentions. While resolutions are fine but intentions are so much better! You can read all about how to set yours for 2023 and get a glimpse of what intentions Good Things Guy founder Brent Lindeque is setting for his year ahead here.
  12. Let’s have some fun this year, get outdoors, do a little travelling, go to your local theme park. After the last three years, we all deserve a year filled with fun.
  13. Say goodbye to skinny jeans! 2023 fashion is having a 70s and 90s comeback and we cannot wait to let our ankles breathe again.
  14. Let’s make this the year of new hobbies, or picking up old hobbies. If you have been itching to learn a new skill, why not this year? We think its the perfect time to start.
  15. On the topic of learning, we encourage everyone to visit museums, listen to interesting talks, observe art, read books, challenge your own opinions, work on your health, walk through a forest, take deep breaths and simply grow.
  16. Can we make this the year we support local for all those special occasions? Many people are finally finding their feet so if you have a birthday, anniversary or wedding gift to buy, buy it from a local artisan. If gifting isn’t your thing, consider an experience or local adventure.
  17. We can expect a few medical breakthroughs this year. There are several medical trials set to take place in 2023 that will target treatment for ovarian cancer, Alzeimer’s and Parkinson’s to name a few. Innovations such as 3D printing and Artificial Intelligence are also being used more in the medical field.
  18. Streaming entertainment is easier to access and more affordable than ever so we can expect some great shows this year. We may even be in for a few more services made available to South Africans!
  19. Becoming moneywise. If the pandemic and following years taught us anything, it’s that we really need to take care of our money. As living costs rise, we can bet South Africans will become more moneywise this year. So if you do anything in 2023, make sure to start paying off your debts and saving as much as reasonably possible. There are loads of other money tips we can give, but we will save them for a stand-alone article.
  20. Surprises – One can guarantee that 2023 will be filled with surprises. That is one of the essences of life, to be surprised by how it unfolds. We can prepare and plan until with think it is all sorted and life will pop in a surprise.
  21. Ubuntu – We have noticed that no matter how hard things get, the spirit of Ubuntu ripples through South Africa. So you can bet you will see more of it this year.
