Braai Day is around the corner and this year Jan Braai wants to switch it up by starting the celebrations a little early, host a ‘Braai Day Eve’ celebration.

South Africa’s best public holiday National Braai Day on 24 September. It is a special day because it celebrates our heritage and combines one of the country’s most popular cooking techniques. Jan Braai shared a pretty cool idea about how we can celebrate the day this year.

For over 10 years South Africans’ of all shapes and sizes have been uniting around a fire. This is your reminder to be prepared for the best day of the year. While South Africa is a country of unparalleled diversity and pleasing differences, there is one common thread that brings us all together, and that’s our love for cooking on an open flame.

To make this year’s National Braai Day even more festive, Jan Braai is also calling on South Africans to light a fire for Braai Night – the night before National Braai Day, a smokey “Christmas Eve”, if you will.

Taking inspiration from the Netherlands’ King’s Night, Braai Night is an opportunity to party around a fire before the relaxing festivities of National Braai Day. It’s also the perfect excuse to braai two days in a row.

National Braai Day is not only a chance to sit around a fire and reflect on our shared heritage, but also the chance enjoy our beautiful country by doing the one thing we know all South Africans’ are experts at – braaing.

So what do you say? How about a Braai Day Eve celebration? We shared a story recently about all the best places to celebrate the day, read it here.
