As Cape Town gears up for one of its biggest tekkie tests of the year—the Cape Town Marathon—the opportunity to run for a reason presents itself! The Mdzananda Clinic are inviting racers to Run For Rescues and make a change for the animals of Khayelitsha:

Khayelitsha, South Africa (11 September 2024) — It’s almost time for the Cape Town Marathon—one of the City’s biggest tekkie tests of the year. And, if stories’ like that of Kyle’s determined dash for dogs have inspired you recently, this could be your chance to make the task of punishing your legs worth a whole lot more thanks to initiatives like Run For Rescues!

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic based in Khayelitsha are challenging their supporters taking on the Cape Town Marathon to throw their hats in the ring for rescues.

Mdzananda is registered as one of the charity beneficiaries of the race and has seen first-hand how much of an impact those who run for a reason beyond themselves can make.

In 2023, 44 supporters and their communities helped raise an impressive R24,501 for the sick, injured and homeless animals of Khayelitsha in a heartwarming feat. This year, Mdzananda hopes to surpass their previous victory and make even more of an impact through community spirit and sport.

“We have set a high goal,” says Mdzananda Fundraising and Communications Executive Marcelle du Plessis. “But we believe that, with the public’s support, we can achieve it. In 2023 we served over 17,000 community pets who would otherwise have had no access to medical care and all funds raised will go directly to serving the animals.”

“Every step you take and every metre you conquer will help us reach our goal of providing care, shelter, and hope to the animals who need it most,” adds Fundraiser Kelly Arendse.

How to Get Involved

  • Pledge to #RunForRescues. You can do this no matter which of the marathon events you want to take part in
  • Grab a Ticket through Mdzananda
  • Even if you already have your ticket, you can still sign up to raise funds for the animals by contacting Kelly Arendse on fund@mdzananda.co.za
  • Wear orange in solidarity
  • And remember to spread the word to friends and family!

“Let’s make 2024 our best year yet. Run for rescues, run for hope, and run for the lives of animals. Together, we can make a difference,” Kelly concludes.
