Seeing as South African Sign Language is officially one of the twelve, the SA Deaf Rugby Association have been teaching signs related to the World Cup; these are some you can learn.
South Africa (29 September 2023) – The South African Deaf Rugby Association doesn’t only promote the sport of deaf rugby, but also advocates for inclusion in South Africa. To help South Africans embrace the new and 12th official language, SA Deaf Rugby has been sharing a daily sign, to teach SA about all things South African Sign Language (SASL) and rugby!
The association has been sharing everything from terms within rugby to the names of the Springboks. Think terms like “Go Bokke”, “Referee”, “Line Out”, “TMO” to name a few.
Mark Barnard has been sharing each of the player’s names, working from the front of the pack, so if your favourite player has not been featured yet, stay tuned to the Instagram for more. The rest of the team includes Adin Pieters, Andre du Toit, Patrick Molotshwa and Shani de Jarger. Each is proud to be sharing the rugby terms needed to celebrate the World Cup.
We believe that every South African should be able to say hello, in more than one official language and as SASL is the newest, why not add a few rugby terms to your repertoire? You can find all the videos here but we have also shared a few below.
So get ready to sign “Go Bokke” this weekend!
