After winning the inaugural event in 2025, the South African athlete returns to Texas to secure back-to-back men’s pro victories.

San Antonio, USA (03 March 2026) – South Africa’s Thomas van Tonder has done it again!

After winning the inaugural Red Bull Rancher Strong title last year, he successfully defended his crown this past weekend, claiming back-to-back victories in the men’s pro division at the 2026 event in Texas, USA.

Thomas topped the podium after a demanding day of competition at Tejas Rodeo Company in Bulverde, where athletes from four countries and 21 American states gathered to tackle the rancher-inspired obstacle course.

This competition tests an athlete’s strength, stamina and speed across eight obstacles. Competitors race head-to-head through qualifying rounds, semi-finals and finals, with both pro and open divisions for men and women.

Retaining his title required consistency across every round and composure under pressure.

“It takes so much to be prepared to be here, to travel, to compete, to get through all the rounds, to get to the final and not mess it up. Tying it all together feels incredible.”

The course is designed to test even the most experienced athletes. By the final stages, fatigue becomes a major factor, particularly on signature obstacles like “Rope the Bull”, which demands both grip strength and endurance after an already taxing run.

His back-to-back victory cements his status as one of the standout competitors in this unique format, which blends functional fitness with ranch-style challenges in a fast-paced, spectator-friendly environment.

From winning the inaugural event last year to defending his title this year, the South African has firmly established himself as the athlete to beat in Red Bull Rancher Strong.

The question now is simple: can the Thomas return next year and complete a remarkable three-peat?
