The Lion’s Head hiking trail will reopen this weekend after maintenance that saw the upgrade to existing climbing aids and the installation of two new ladders.
Cape Town, South Africa (13 July 2023) – The Lion’s Head hiking trail has received some upgrades and will be ready to reopen this weekend. The SANParks Table Mountain team shared the happy news, including the update that two additional ladders were installed.
Many outdoor enthusiasts have been waiting for those crisp winter day climbs to be allowed again and very soon, they will be!
“Dear visitors,
Kindly be informed that the contractor has successfully completed the maintenance work at Lions Head. The existing top ladder, and staples were replaced and two new additional ladders were installed. Access to the summit is only via an alternative footpath.
Please note the new ladders and staples still need to dry before they can be used, therefore this area is cordoned off for safety purposes and will reopen on Friday, 14 July 2023. Thank you for your patience in this regard.”
The additional climbing aids and upgrades to existing infrastructure have been done to make the ascent to the top of Lion’s Head smoother for all. The mountain hike is a popular one for locals and visitors alike so this news is perfect for those getting ready to plan their next hike.
Shout out to the SANParks team for making it happen!
