Lolly the orphaned rhino calf recently had a great day splashing in some muddy water and while enjoying the sunshine, she gave a little puppy-like shake.
Lolly is one of the many residents living at the Rhino Orphanage and she, just like all her pals, loves spending time having a little mud bath.
A mud bath is a very important part of rhino’s daily activity. The mud acts as an insect repellent, and also protects their sensitive skin from the sun plus it helps cool them down.
She was recently filmed enjoying her mud bath at the orphanage and just about melted everyone’s hearts with her puppy-like behaviour. The video was filmed by one of the incredible staff members at the orphanage and shared to the Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation who often support the orphanage with much-needed milk and supplies to keep the orphanage running.
Orphaned rhinos don’t have a high chance of survival on their own which is why they get taken to these orphanages were they can interact with their own kind and grow up safely before being released back into the wild. At the Rhino Orphanage, there are many other little ones including Marang and J’aime. It is vitally important that these places remain opperational so that these young rhino get a full chance at life.
