Rapper Drake and Metalcore lead singer Sam Carter both stopped their shows to call out perpetrators who were sexually harassing women in the crowd.
The media has been filled with stories of women and men coming forward to report sexual harassment and assault. The perpetrators have either remained silents, apologised or denied the harassment. The reason these stories are making headlines is that they involve celebrities.
Movie stars and singers have had enough, they are using their voices to stand up for those who don’t have the opportunity. Rapper Drake was recently filmed stopping his show and pointing out a dirtbag in his audience that was sexually harassing a woman.
The star was performing in Sydney, Australia when he spotted a man in the crowd groping a woman. Anger flooded him, he halted the music and stared the guy down and said,“Yo, stop that s**t. If you don’t stop touching girls, I’m gonna come out there and f**k you up.”
The crowd went wild! Social media has been praising the artist for speaking up in the moment.
“We need more men like Drake who will call out trash who objectify, harass and grope women.” – Luke Waltham
“I don’t condone violence but I absolutely condone men speaking out. We need more of this. If you see something say something.” – Scott Dworkin
Other American rappers have come forward and said that this should be a protocol at all shows from now on. You can watch the video below. This isn’t the first time an artist has pointed out perpetrators and called them out for their actions. Architects singer Sam Carter was also filmed calling out a fan for groping a woman.
Carter was performing with the band at a festival in the Netherlands. During the show, a woman was crowd surfing when a man reached over and groped her. Carter saw the action and as soon as the song had ended he called the man out and told the crowd it was not ok!
“it is f***ing disgusting and there is no place for that s***.”
“It is not your f***ing body, it is not your f***ing body and you do not f***ing grab at someone. Not at my f***ing show. So if you feel like doing that again, walk out there and f*** off and don’t come back.”
“Let’s keep this going, let’s keep this a f***ing safe place for everybody, and let’s have a f***ing good time.”
Both videos have strong language but you can watch them below. This is good news for women and men going to concerts, they can start to feel safer in these spaces knowing that the performing artists won’t stand for sexual harassment. The more people speak up, the more change there will be!
