Gaelyn and Gill have steadily been pushing through their audacious goal of completing four ultramarathons in one year, recently becoming the first-ever female finishers of the brutal Cederberg 100-Miler!
George, South Africa (22 October 2025) – While some opted to break old habits or try new hobbies for their 2025 resolutions, Gaelyn Slabber-Postma and Gillian Lupton-Smith chose to undertake the awe-inspiring challenge to complete four 160km ultramarathons in a single year!
Good Things Guy shared all about their audacious goal back in June, and we’re happy to report that these two thrill seekers are still going strong.
Gaelyn and Gill recently completed the Cederberg 100-Miler in 45 hours 34 minutes, finishing third overall and becoming the first women ever to complete this brutal race course!
“The views are incredible, just incredible. We were constantly blown away by the ever-changing landscape. The first night was overcast, but night two we had clear skies and a beautiful starry night, and unless it was hallucinations (quite possibly) we even saw the Milky Way,” recounts Gaelyn.
“It was the craziest trail I’ve ever done. Most of the trail is not marked or even visible under the shrub (spikey, angry Cederberg shrubs), so navigating was difficult, but at night it was Jumanji level 10 vibes! The constant scramble to make use of every running water source to stay hydrated was challenging. We had eight aid stations, but the distance between them was too much to rely solely on that. It was not a race; it was a challenge. A survival challenge. But we had so much fun.”
Even more astonishingly, this achievement came just one month after they conquered the 6 Peaks Challenge in George twice!
The pair has now completed three out of four milers, with the Longmore Forest Endurance Run 160km being the last one in December.
At the heart of every run, push, climb and personal lesson learned, Gaelyn and Gill endure is the drive to raise awareness, support and funds for Wild Mongoo, a charity that strives to empower vulnerable women through skills training.
They continue to train around full-time jobs with Gaelyn as a personal trainer and small-business owner, and Gill as a paediatric doctor at George Hospital – showing extraordinary strength, heart, and purpose.
Their story keeps growing, not only as an athletic feat but as a message of what South African women can endure, create, and inspire.
We’re rooting for them all the way! To support their cause, visit Gaelyn and Gill’s BackaBuddy page.
