Heurada Small has taken a major opportunity and turned it into her shining moment, earning multiple accolades for her first year of theatre school.

Cape Town, South Africa (18 March 2025) – What started as a shot at the stars has really turned into a dream come true for Heurada Small, who originally hails from a small town in the Overberg. She grew up taking part in the small community theatre, and it helped her plant the seed for a big dream to one day take to bigger stages and grander theatres.

In 2023, her community backed her dream, helping her get to auditions at the Waterfront Theatre School, where she joined hundreds of hopefuls vying for a spot at the school for the year 2024. Having no formal training, the talented young dancer gave her audition her best shot, and it became clear to the school that her raw talent needed only a little guidance to shine through… she earned her spot, and so a star was born!

The news spread around the community in a matter of moments; one of their own was on the cusp of something big! Now, to get her there!

While talent alone had earned Heurada her spot at the school, fees became the next big hurdle. Without fail, the small community and outside donors clubbed together enough to get Heurada into her first year. And so she shone.

The year was filled with lessons ranging from dance to vocals and everything in between. Her heart was full; her ambition to make every moment count has shown up time and time again. Heurada’s success affirms that the stage is where she belongs.

Of that success, the most recent has been the annual school prize giving, where she received quadruple honours in dance. Earning awards in Modern, Jazz, Tap and Street dance categories.

With her first year behind her, the future unfolds ahead of her, and her second year has just begun. Those wanting to support Heurada’s journey through the arts can reach out to Future Launch, the Home of the Napier Amateur Dramatic Society and Overberg Youth Centre. It is here she got her start in the arts, and this is where her support lies.

Lindsay Moncrieff from Future Launch reached out to share the happy news, showing just how much hard work Heurada has put into this opportunity.

The community have continued to offer support wherever they can, but it’s tough, and help is always welcomed.
