Not sure what to do for Mandela Day this year but know you want to get involved? Then this might be just the thing for you.
No Danger Diaries, is an organisation who’s “soul” mission is to #ShareTheJoy with all people around the world. And they want us to celebrate Madiba in the one way that truly reflects his special spirit – by dancing!
Started by 4 friends, Daniel Cameron Becker, Grant Ross, Sebastian Davies and Travis Stedman. To start making a difference in the world, they saw that a change in mind-set was needed . A change which told people that you don’t have to be extraordinary to make a difference. And that you can have fun and change the world one task at a time.
Their website shows a Living List of Tasks which they have been doing for the last 4 years.
Their list includes tasks like ‘Take chocolates to ladies in a frail-care centre on Valentine’s day’, ‘Dance through 6 African countries’, ‘Put on a puppet show for orphans’ and ‘Take the visually impaired hiking up Table Mountain’, as well as a variety of other ongoing projects.
Having fun and making a difference is at the core of what they do.
When asked where the idea of DanceforMadiba came from, Daniel Cameron Becker, one of the co-founders of No Danger Diaries explained,
“We wanted to donate even more of our time this Mandela Day and do it in a more special way. We also wanted to get as many people involved as possible. And so we thought this would be the perfect time to celebrate! To celebrate the life of the great Tata Madiba, to celebrate the beauty of all our people. And to just bring a positive vibe to our country; and what better way than to get everyone together through dance?”
He further added, “Mandela’s principles guide us daily at No Danger Diaries and just as Mandela said “it’s music and dancing that make me at peace with the world”, we couldn’t agree more! And when Mr Mandela added ‘it’s in your hands now’, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to play our part.”

Runner up jivers will be awarded a Get Smarter short course for themselves as well as for someone (from a disadvantaged background) who they feel deserves it most.
“We’re all about sharing as much joy as possible” said Grant Ross, one of the co-founders of No Danger Diaries. “We wanted to share our time beyond the 67minutes. And do something that everyone around the world could get involved in.”
