Selena Gomez recently added a new title to her repertoire—the most followed woman on Instagram. In history.

Global (24 March, 2023) — When Selena Gomez said “always be yourself, there’s no one better,” we’re glad she followed her own advice. In a world of influencers battling it out for likes and follows, Selena proved that staying true to your authenticity can go the mile. Now, Selena officially wears the crown as the most followed woman on Instagram with a whopping 403 million followers, and the inner-child in all of us is glowing.

To put this figure into perspective, South Africa has a population of 61,338,683, according to Worldometer. The United States of America has a population of 336,274,437. Apply some quick maths and you’ll find that Selena’s following is higher than both of these populations put together. Will she have her own country next? If Selenators (her fans’ nickname) have anything to do with it, anything is possible.

Still, the actress, philanthropist and singer has kept her attitude of gratitude. To celebrate the historic milestone, she shared a heart-warming thank you post.

Alongside a series of photos featuring her fans, she wrote: “Wishing I could hug all 400 million of you.”

Of her authenticity and dedication to life behind the highlight reel, Selena has taken her fans through the many of the ups and downs of her life. Some moments were heartbreaking, like her terrifying battle with lupus. Others were heart-touching, like her best friend donating a kidney for Selena’s survival. Some, like her documentary ‘My Mind & Me’ have been a much-needed reminder that mental health challenges impact all of us.

Beyond being the Queen of Instagram, Selena is busy with acting, building her platform Wondermind that destigmatizes mental health, her beauty line Rare Beauty and being a UNICEF ambassador.
