Tracy Going shared a heartwarming video of St George’s Hospital nurses serenading the night shift, using their voices to spread a beautiful blend of hope and comfort to the patients facing personal struggles.
Port Elizabeth, South Africa (21 October 2025) – Spending time in the hospital is rarely something anyone eagerly anticipates. Yet, life has a way of slowing us down when we least expect it – whether through sudden health challenges or an unforeseen injury.
Author and Speaker, Tracy Going had many plans for the months ahead until life did what it so often does at times – not go according to plan.
“I was supposed to be leaving on an art residency in Greece in a few weeks time. Been anticipating this for months. I wanted to work on an exhibition, but these plans have been scuppered over the last few months. I wanted to end my year with a marathon, but my running days seem to be over for now. It’s been so disappointing, and I’ve allowed the disappointment to settle over me at times- knowing that I’ll have to pivot soon,” she shared in a raw and emotional post.
Recovering from spinal surgery, Tracey went on to open up about how her hospital stay at St George’s Hospital in Port Elizabeth was, however, a pleasant one, brimming with heartfelt encounters with kind medical staff whose compassion has served as a light during a rather dark time.
“I cannot overstate how pleasant my hospital experience was. Every staff member was kind, patient and generous with their time and care.”
She shared a video, recorded from her hospital bed, of the nurses joining in song as they sang a soft hymn during the night shift changeover.
“It was so beautiful to listen to. Everyone stopped doing what they were doing and just embraced the voices of these wonderful women,” Tracy shares.
We weren’t even in the room, but the nurse’s soothing voices and beautiful display of comforting one another and their patients as they face different battles was profoundly moving.
It’s one of those moments that remind us how compassion, human connection and dedication can make a world of difference in trying times.
We applaud these amazing nurses and wish Tracey a swift recovery and brighter days ahead.
