A little girl dressed in a Springbok-themed dress proudly danced to Mango Groove’s hit song “Special Star” at her school’s event in New Zealand, taking over the stage with her infectious energy!
New Zealand (25 August 2025) – One special six-year-old girl living in New Zealand lit up her school’s stage with a proudly South African performance that has left our nation in awe of her energy and pride in her national heritage.
A now viral video shared on TikTok by her mother, Anneli, shows the girl dancing to Mango Groove’s 80s hit song, Special Star, at the school’s her school’s International Day event.
Dressed in a colourful Springbok-inspired dress with the prints of the national flag on its skirt, the girl is seen dancing, twirling, and taking up the entire stage in her solo performance that wowed her parents and the crowd.
“We might be in a different country, but South Africa will forever be in our blood! International Day at our school is a good time to remember where we come from. Today I’m soooo proud of my 6-year-old! She was amazing, and her self-confidence really showed on stage! Proudly South African,” wrote Anneli in the post’s caption.
With Heritage Day just around the corner here in Mzansi, this captivating performance couldn’t have had better timing.
Easily winning over fans online, social media users responded with the sweetest messages for Anneli’s daughter, with one user commenting:
“If this were a South African crowd, we would’ve all been on our feet cheering her on. She did very well and made her internet family all proud. We were grooving with her.”
