Historically, the Seawinds community – bordering a prominent gang line – has faced barriers to accessing affordable veterinary services. That changed this month!

Cape Town, South Africa (11 June 2026) – For almost a decade, AfriPaw Animal Welfare has served the low-income community of Vrygrond and surrounding areas with hundreds of free sterilisations, affordable primary healthcare, and has brought access to food and shelter for township pets.

This month, the NGO successfully expanded its work, launching its second Pet Clinic, bordering the Seawinds community.

“Our flagship Pet Clinic was born in Vrygrond and has now expanded to bordering Seawinds,” shared the animal welfare organisation. “This marks a significant milestone in scaling our proven approach to community-based animal welfare, and we are thrilled with the outcome.”

The Pet Clinic was launched on the grounds of Zerilda Park Primary School on 6 June, with a total of 177 pets in attendance on opening day. There, they received primary healthcare that pets in the area had been lacking for many years.

“Located on the other side of a prominent gang line, Seawinds has historically faced barriers to accessing services. By bringing pet care closer to home, we are making essential veterinary support more accessible to local pet owners and their animals,” the NGO shares.

The successful launch brought many helping hands together, including AfriPaw’s Pet Clinic Programme Partners – the Animal Welfare Society of SA and TEARS Animal Rescue.

“Their support through vehicles, medication, vaccines, and veterinary and inspectorate staff complemented the efforts of our dedicated Ambassadors and Crew.”

The expansion was made possible by The Edgard & Cooper Foundation and Boehringer Ingelheim (NexGard South Africa), sponsors of the organisation.

With dozens of pets in the Seawinds already having benefitted from the new care brought by the Pet Clinic, that number is expected to grow in the coming months as more residents learn about the new service available to their beloved four-legged family members.

“Together, we are breaking down barriers to pet care and creating healthier, happier communities for pets and the people who love them.” shares AfriPaw.
