The Sprinkle Squad’s goal is to raise R10,000 for the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital by baking and selling delicious cupcakes by the dozen!
Johannesburg, South Africa (24 July 2026) – Mia is a 10-year-old primary school learner in Johannesburg. Over the school holidays, she and her group of young friends decided to spend their time baking for a worthy cause.
“Mia decided, a while ago, that she wanted to do something with her friends over the holidays to collect money for a good cause,” says Mia’s mom, Estelle.
It was during a visit to her grandmother’s house that she discovered the cause she wanted to back. The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital was featured on TV, and Mia was amazed by their work caring for rescued pangolins.
“She saw a program on the Johannesburg Wildlife Vet hospital and the work they do with pangolins that are saved from the animal trade,” says Estelle. “Many of them at death’s door when they arrive there. When she saw that, she instantly knew that this was the cause that she wanted to collect funds for.”
With a love for baking, Mia rallied her six friends – Finn, Lize, Lisa, Lente, Josie and Mia B – who were immediately excited and eager to get involved in helping save pangolins, one cupcake at a time.
Together they became The Sprinkle Squad.
Their goal is to raise R10,000 to support the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital and the incredible work they do with pangolins and other wildlife.
The Sprinkle Squad spent their winter holidays in the kitchen, baking up a storm.
Cupcakes were made to order by the dozen, at R200 a box. The girls handled all the baking themselves, while parents stayed close by to help with logistics and ingredient runs.

Mia’s dad, Louis, also got involved by creating a website where customers across Johannesburg can place their orders.
“Mia carefully checked and commented on the website, until she felt it was just right,” says Estelle.
While The Sprinkle Squad have already returned to school for the third term, they’re not ready to hang up their aprons just yet. The group has decided to keep the fundraiser running for another month or two, depending on interest.
