The VUSA 24-Hour Cycle Challenge is back, and it’s a super cool relay where hundreds of people, from pro athletes to kids, hop on static bikes to raise money, which directly supports early learning, academic, rugby, and psychosocial programmes.

Cape Town, South Africa (01 September 2025) – The VUSA 24-Hour Cycle Challenge is back, and not only is it a test of endurance, unity, and the power of community, but it’s all aimed at giving the children of Langa a brighter future!

Over the course of 24 hours, hundreds of cyclists, ranging from seasoned athletes to school kids, take turns riding static bikes in a non-stop relay to raise critical funds for the VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy on 6 September at Bishops Diocesan College.

This event is about far more than fitness.

VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy, based in Langa, Cape Town, works with children aged four to 13, running daily early learning, academic, rugby, and psychosocial programmes that open doors to opportunity. Each cent raised during the Cycle Challenge goes directly into running and expanding these programmes.

“Last year, your support helped us repair our Digibus (a mobile classroom), build a new library and computer lab, and set up a practice space for our social worker,” Vusa shared.

This year, the Vusa 2025 Cycle Challenge is aiming even higher. The organisation is looking to expand their literacy programme so more children can read for meaning by Grade 4, finish building a new community hub with an income-generating deli and a reading garden, as well as strengthen their academic support by hiring more facilitators.

So, when you see a cyclist pedalling away, know they’re helping build a hub of hope.

“We have 60 bikes running for 24 hours. Each one represents a team of riders, from schoolchildren to corporations, pushing themselves for a purpose. There’s live entertainment, a food truck, and a vibrant atmosphere. But the heart of the event is the belief that, together, we can level the playing field,” Vusa adds.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Or simply give whatever you can, because it all adds up to real, lasting change
