The Swimming World Cup has come to an end with South African swimmers, new and seasoned, bringing victory into the fold. Where Chad le Clos added another gold to his impressive tally, youngster Pieter Coetzé was crowned SA’s king of the pool with seven gold medals for this year’s Worlds!
Global (04 November 2024) — Elite swimmers have just finished the final pitstop on the Swimming World Cup tour, where they ended their time in Singapore with proud moments for everyone watching back home. While Chad le Clos got to add another gold to his epic and year-spanning tally, youngster Pieter Coetzé was fashioned with the title of this year’s king of the pool for his impressive and gold-drenched efforts this year.
When we last checked in on Pieter Coetzé’s performance at Worlds, he had already claimed five gold medals and the entirety of the gold wins for South Africa.
For the Singapore round, the 20-year-old star decided to flex a little more, ending off with seven gold medals to his name!
Not only this, but the youngster also earned himself a pair of crowns after winning a third straight 200m backstroke race in a time of 1:49.88 before rinsing and repeating the third win for the 100m backstroke in 49:36 seconds.
Ultimately, Pieter Coetzé ranked fourth overall in what was a brilliant stretch for his career.
Meanwhile, on the more seasoned side of the pool, Chad le Clos claimed gold in Singapore for the Men’s 200m butterfly. This means that Chad has claimed 152 gold medals from the World Cup in his lifetime!
Chad was just as proud of the younger swimmers as everyone else, while Pieter shared that he actually didn’t have any expectations for what he considered an opportunity to race against friends.
