Manchester, United Kingdom (02 November 2025) – South African freestyle wrestler Lenerd van Schalkwyk is all set to take on some of the best in the world for the Great British Wrestling Grand Prix in Manchester. The tournament, which draws top-tier young talent from across more than 17 nations, promises an intense weekend of high-level competition, and Lenerd is ready to bring the heat.

Competing in the 57kg Freestyle U20 division, the 20-year-old has steadily built a name for himself as one of South Africa’s brightest wrestling prospects. His journey has been nothing short of inspiring. From early days on the mats to now, representing his country on one of the biggest youth stages in global wrestling.

This year alone, Lenerd achieved an impressive 4th place finish at the 2025 Tallinn Open, following his bronze medal win at the same event in 2024. Each competition has added valuable experience to his growing career, sharpening his technique and strengthening his mindset as he continues to evolve as an athlete.

The Great British Wrestling Grand Prix marks his final major competition of the year, and it’s one he’s been preparing for with focus and determination. Beyond the accolades, it’s a chance to test himself against the best, to measure his growth, and to represent South Africa with pride.

As the competition gets closer, there’s an unmistakable buzz of excitement from those who have watched his journey unfold. His family, friends, and the South African wrestling community have all rallied behind him, cheering him on every step of the way as he takes to the mats this weekend.
