Marquiss Twins

Darren and Gareth Marquiss set off to Rotterdam to compete in the ITU World Triathlon Championships while representing South Africa, they made us proud!

Darren and Gareth are very well known in their local triathlon community. They started competing when they were 11 years old. The brothers live in Durban and are commonly known as the “Marquiss Twins”. While they are practically identical the brothers compete as individuals.

“Competing in this sport for 8 years, we have learnt so much about who we are, our strengths and weaknesses and how hard we have to push to overcome those weaknesses in order to turn our dream into a reality.”

The brothers thanked their trainer Kate Roberts, a Double Olympian Triathlete, for training them. Kate is giving back to future triathlon stars. The brothers were selected to represent South Africa at the ITU World Triathlon Championships.

Competing in the 20-24 Male AG, the brothers finished in the top 20. Gareth placed 5th with a time of 01:58:28 and Darren placed 20th with a time of 02:03:29. The twins competed against 7 other South Africans in their age group, which included a total of 85 global athletes.

“Our Long-term athletic dream is to compete on the European circuit and represent our country as an Eilte Athlete at the ITU World Triathlon Championship in 2018.”

Well done Darren and Gareth, you have made SA proud!
