As the Sapphire Coast Marathon takes its place as a KZN Athletics Championship event, four dedicated pacers are stepping up to help runners stay on track, reach their goals, and enjoy every stride of the scenic coastal route.

Amanzimtoti, South Africa (22 October 2025) – The Sapphire Coast Marathon is not just any race. This is where ocean views, coastal breeze, and that KwaZulu-Natal charm come together for one of South Africa’s most scenic runs.

Already a Comrades and Two Oceans qualifier, the Sapphire Coast Marathon has officially been recognised as a KZN Athletics 42.2km Championship, putting it firmly on the province’s running calendar as a must-do race.

Happening on Sunday, 26 October in Amanzimtoti, the marathon promises more excitement than ever, with four experienced pacers ready to help runners chase personal bests and qualify for the big ones. We know that sometimes runners need that steady rhythm that keeps them moving when fatigue kicks in. Their presence makes all the difference on race day.

Meet the Pacers: The Heartbeat of Race Day

This year’s pacers bring experience and motivation to the starting line:

  • Umar Randeree (10km – Sub 1 Hour) After eight months of training in Kenya, Umar’s bringing serious speed and good vibes to his 10km bus. Expect motivation, laughs, and maybe a few sprint tips along the way.
  • Njabulo Zuma (21.1km – 2h20 Bus) Known for his calm energy and Team Vitality spirit, Njabulo’s all about helping runners cross that half-marathon finish line feeling strong and proud.
  • Simphiwe “Mshishi” Mngwengwe (42.2km – 3h40 Bus) A powerhouse marathoner with a track record across SA’s biggest races, Simphiwe’s got his eyes on helping runners smash qualifying goals.
  • Sbo Zindela (42.2km – 4h20 Bus) A familiar face and crowd favourite, Sbo’s been leading successful buses for years. His friendly, reliable approach ensures every runner feels part of something special.

Coastal Colour and Community Pride

Runners will be treated to more than just finish-line glory. They will get to experience the Sapphire Coast’s beauty. Along the route, local artist Christine Andrews’s vibrant murals celebrate the region’s spirit and scenery, turning the marathon into a moving gallery.

“The Sapphire Coast Marathon showcases not only athletic excellence but also the incredible spirit of our local community,” said Romy Wenzel of Sapphire Coast Tourism. “From pacers and volunteers to sponsors and supporters, this event reflects what makes the Sapphire Coast so special.”

The Sapphire Coast Marathon follows one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most breathtaking routes.

Whether you are running, cheering, or tuning in from home, this year’s edition promises all the coastal energy you need to keep the running spirit alive.
