Hero in my Hood has kicked off 2026 with a meaningful posters project that supports animal welfare organisations!
South Africa (01 February 2026) – Hero in my Hood is known for creating story-driven activity books, posters and educational resources for children that help them learn, grow, and see themselves as everyday heroes.
What’s one very important aspect of becoming a hero? Standing up for animals.
There are currently many sterilisation drives happening across South African rescue shelters and organisations, mainly because too many dogs and cats are being born, abandoned or left to struggle on the streets.
Shelters are overwhelmed trying to care for them. Organisations like the SPCA are attempting to break that cycle at the source by running sterilisation drives, which prevent unwanted litters and help shelters cope with the huge numbers of animals arriving every day.
“To help animal shelters cope with the unprecedented number of dogs and cats in need of loving homes in South Africa, most pet-care organisations and many cities are embarking on mass sterilisation drives. We worked with a number of experts and the Cape of Good Hope SPCA to put together a stunning poster and brochures to encourage people to have their pets sterilised,” Hero shares.
By purchasing and distributing these pawsome posters and brochures – at schools, local rescue organisations and community groups – the public plays a role in educating children and adults to be responsible pet owners. Everyone becomes a hero!
