Temba Bavuma Foundation Backs Young Cricketers Ahead of U15 Empowered Festival

Young cricketers receive new equipment and training at Wanderers as part of the Temba Bavuma Foundation to empower disadvantaged youth through sport and education.

Johannesburg, South Africa (24 August 2025)- South African cricket test captain Temba Bavuma is continuing to use his platform to change lives, with his foundation once again stepping up to support the next generation of players.

Launched in 2016, the Temba Bavuma Foundation was created with the purpose of uplifting scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds by combining education with the opportunities that sport provides. Cricket has always been at the heart of Bavuma’s journey, and through his foundation, he hopes to ensure that young boys and girls from all walks of life can access the same pathways he once dreamed of.

Recently, a group of young cricketers received a special gift! Brand-new equipment, handed out through the foundation at the DP World Wanderers Stadium. For many of these youngsters, this marked a moment of encouragement, a sign that their talent and commitment are being recognised.

The day did not stop there. After the handover, the players were put through their paces on the field, taking part in training drills designed to sharpen their skills and build confidence. With professional guidance and Bavuma’s example lighting the way, the session gave the rising stars a taste of the dedication required to excel in the game.

This initiative comes just in time for the U15 Empowered Cricket Festival, scheduled for 29–31 August 2025 at Wits University. The festival will bring together young talent from across the country, giving them the chance to grow and celebrate the spirit of the game.

By linking sport with education, the foundation is shaping not just better players, but well-rounded individuals who can thrive on and off the field.

The handover at Wanderers was a reminder of how one player’s vision, coupled with genuine commitment, can open doors. With the festival around the corner, these young athletes will walk onto the pitch better equipped, both physically and mentally, to showcase their potential.

Through the foundation, cricket continues to be more than a game but a tool for empowerment, education, and hope.
