Moegamat helps his Hanover Park community by wheeling their kitties all the way to the animal hospital for sterilisation. The hospital wants to find the incredible local hero a new wheelchair!

Cape Town, South Africa (10 September 2026) – Moegamat is an incredible human being. This week, he wheeled his way from his home in Hanover Park to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa’s (AWS) hospital.

Precious cargo made the journey with him. Strapped safely to the back of his wheelchair was his elderly neighbour’s cat, whom he had brought to the welfare organisation for sterilisation.

This isn’t the first time Moegamat has made the journey with an animal strapped to the back of his ride.

“Despite facing struggles of his own, Moegamat continues to make a difference in his community. He helps elderly and vulnerable members of his community by bringing their cats to us for sterilisation and primary health care.” shares AWS.

He doesn’t do it for anything other than the fact that he cares deeply for the members of his community and their little four-legged companions.

“And that is what makes his story so incredibly special. Moegamat is proof that you don’t need much to make a massive difference. You simply need a heart that cares and the determination to keep going.” adds the AWS.

Now, the animal welfare organisation that has seen the difference Moegamat makes in his community wants to do something to give back to him.

“But today, we want to help the man who spends his time helping everyone else.”

Moegamat’s current wheelchair – which he makes good use of, wheeling animals to and from the hospital – is old and worse for wear. The organisation wants to find their local hero a new one, and they’re rallying anyone who could help make it happen.

“We are reaching out to individuals, companies and businesses who may be able to help Moegamat with a more comfortable and suitable wheelchair. Something that will make his daily life easier. Something that will give him greater comfort and independence. Something that will help him continue being the incredible community hero that he is.” the AWS shares.

The AWS says Moegamat is a true inspiration. He shows his community that your circumstances don’t have to define your ability to make a difference.

“Moegamat, you may not realise just how much you inspire us.” the AWS writes. “He has spent so much time helping others. Now it’s our turn to help him.”

South Africa, how about we step up for Moegamat? If you or your business can help with a wheelchair or contribute towards one, please reach out to AWS. Find all the details in this post!
