As Winter Arrives, One Community Partnership is Keeping Children Warm

As winter bites across South Africa, community groups are stepping up. Charity Begins With Me, and the Rotary Club of Rosebank teamed up to deliver warmth where it’s needed most.

Randburg, South Africa (08 June 2026) – This past weekend was bitterly cold and the first truly wintry weekend. We woke up to ice on the cold parts of the garden. What warmed me almost immediately was seeing a post from Charity Begins With Me, where the charity had teamed up with the Rotary Club of Rosebank, which made warm winter tracksuit tops for the organisation.

Seeing charities and community groups unite to make a difference is what makes South Africa so special. Nobody is in it alone; we are united in helping ease the struggles, especially during the winter months.

The Rotary Club of Rosebank got busy making warm tracksuit tops and selected Charity Begins With Me as the beneficiary, knowing that the founder, Stephen Ferreira, would make sure the tops got to children who needed them most.

Stephen started ‘Charity Begins With Me‘ shortly after he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. He realised he could do so much more with the life he had left and quickly set up the charity as a way to give back. He ran the charity throughout his chemotherapy treatments, remission and, sadly, his relapse. Whatever battles he faces in his own life, it is those of others that give him the strength to push through.

Working with the local community has become a huge part of Stephen’s life, and making sure everyone has equal opportunity is even more so. Times are tough, and he sees them first-hand on the ground. This year is 16 years since Stephen started feeding his local community, and today, we see so much more happening within the community.
