Sammy Parrish met Leslia, a dog bed designer, who’s business was struggling, she decided to support the business by raising funds for charity as well.
South Africa – A woman who makes beautiful dog beds has fallen on hard times and is struggling to support her 9-month-old daughter. Sammy Parrish, from One Small Act of Kindness, heard Leslia’s story and came up with a smart way to support charity and help Leslia (pictured above) get her business up and running.
Sammy launched a BackaBuddy fund to raise R10,000.00. This money will be used to buy dog beds from Leslia’s business, and then the beds will be donated to the PETS (Pet Empowerment in Townships) charity.
“Hi all, Sam here. I am looking to help a young woman named Leslia, who makes the most gorgeous pet beds (small, medium and large). She is battling to make ends meet to look after her 9-month old daughter.
I have partnered with PETS (Pet Empowerment in Townships) to help support Leslia as well as give back to the charity. I would like to help Leslia sell her beds using these funds raised and all beds will then be donated to PETS, where they can choose to raffle them off for funds or donate them to pet owners in the township, to keep their doggies well looked after.
I am hoping to raise the funds before the end of September 2019.
Leslia sells dog beds for the below prices:
Small – R450
Medium – R480
Large – R580Our target is to raise R10 000 for Leslia. This would mean 22 small beds/20 medium beds or 17 big beds donated to PETS for the amazing work they do in the townships.
Leslia will be able to rebuy stock to keep making her crafts as well as pay rent and buy food to keep herself and her daughter looked after and safe.
All funds will be managed and handed over to Leslia to help her run her business and all beds bought will be donated to Katherine Matthews of PETS.”

She has helped uplift so many humans and animals. From helping to train young men to become call-centre agents, to donating funds to seven animal charities in desperate need of help.
