Lira has stepped back on stage after suffering a stroke two years ago and her return has been nothing short of inspiring!
South Africa (14 May 2024) – Two years since having a stroke that left songstress Lira without the ability to speak or sing, she took to the stage recently and sang for the first time in public. The moment is one that has brought her great pride, left her feeling emotional and having triumphed over one of the hardest moments in her life.
Lira is a South African singer/songwriter famous for her music, three seasons of The Voice South Africa and being the first-ever African barbie. She suffered a stroke on the 22nd of March 2022 while on tour in Germany. The stroke affected her ability to communicate.
Within the first three months of her recovery, Lira had learned to talk, albeit slowly and was able to read and start writing. A year after her stroke, she thanked fans for their support through every moment in her recovery. She gave a speech honouring those who helped her and now her speech has become a song!
Lira shared her thoughts on how it felt to finally take to the stage again.
“This was so surreal! I never thought I would be sing so soon … I’ve worked hard but there’s times when the progress was SO slow. Now I know that you can achieve anything you put your mind to – just do the work daily. Even if it seems you are making no progress – just keep going. I’m so PROUD of myself. I’m experiencing the season of being proud of myself. It was so emotional – I cried many tears yesterday – I released so much. Tears of pride, joy and triumph!!” – Lira
