A funny typo turned one Cape Town man’s search for a Lebanese bakery into a viral moment that brought laughter, love, and a whole lot of falafel. Here’s how the “Lesbian Bakery” saga unfolded.
Cape Town, South Africa (25 June 2025) – When one local’s auto-correct went rogue, it could have gone awkwardly. Instead, it sparked an outpouring of love, laughs, and a full-on tasting experience that’s now being celebrated across Cape Town.
It all started when Nathan-Ross Adams innocently asked for recommendations for a Lebanese bakery on a community Facebook group. But his phone had other ideas, swapping “Lebanese” for “Lesbian.” The post took on a life of its own, drawing in support, solidarity, and a whole lot of belly laughs from users who were absolutely crushed to find out that the Lesbian Bakery didn’t actually exist.
The real Lebanese Bakery and Kitchen, tucked away in Cape Town, jumped in on the fun before the post’s comments were turned off, sending a heartfelt (and hilarious) invitation to Nathan for a personal tasting with Chef Clara herself.
And what a spread it was.
On the day, Nathan and Chef Clara shared the bakery’s signature tasting plate, a dreamy medley of freshly made mezzes, dips, spreads and crispy falafel. Think baba ganoush, labneh, beetroot dip, mutabal, hummus, marinated aubergines, warm pita, and a sample of their beloved chicken and beef shawarma. Basically, Middle Eastern comfort food heaven.

While Chef Clara found the whole saga hilarious, the bakery’s team admits there was a brief moment of panic.
“We didn’t want the humour to turn sour or offend anyone – especially during Pride,” said their digital marketing manager, Manni Ferreira. “But inviting Nathan to judge the food for himself felt like the right kind of reset. Turns out, good humour and good food really do bring people together.”
Since the viral moment, their inbox has been buzzing, new customers are showing up in droves, and Nathan might even be booking them for catering, fingers crossed.
The moral of the story? Typos happen. But sometimes, they lead to falafel, new friends, and a whole lot of love.
