Crowdfunding resource BackaBuddy has cut all platform fees in the spirit of festive season fundraising for charities and individuals alike!

South Africa (13 December 2024) — In some very good news for those raising funds this festive season, leading local crowdfunding resource BackaBuddy has cut all its platform fees for the duration of December!

While similar cuts of platform fees have happened in the past for registered non-profits (a year-round initiative), however, this 0% fee opportunity applies to organisations and individuals raising funds for personal causes alike in the month of December.

“This 0% platform fee initiative is our gift to our community,” says Catherine Du Plooy, Director and Chief Growth Officer at BackaBuddy. “[It’s] an opportunity for campaign creators to raise vital funds with fewer fees and for donors to make an even greater impact.”

The team were greatly inspired by the generosity of this year’s Giving Tuesday, which saw almost R107 million raised on BackaBuddy this year. This mind-blowing sum marks R550 million raised on BackaBuddy in total (the platform has been going since 2015).

The December fee drop means that only third-party payment gateway fees apply (PayPal, SnapScan, Instant EFT and credit card fees). However, the platform taking itself out of the fee payments this month is set to help many immensely.

The team shared that the fees will be cut until 31 December. So, if you’ve been meaning to launch a crowdfunding campaign for a cause close to your heart, now is the best time to do so.

Meanwhile, in more good crowdfunding news, thanks to many South African donors who rallied for DRC expat Jean Paul, the vet is now well on his way to serving animals once again! You can read his story here.
