From Soshanguve to Spain, a young footballer takes a major step onto the international stage and hopes more girls from her community chase their football dreams.
Soshanguve, South Africa (15 June 2026) – For many young footballers, the dream is to one day test themselves on an international stage. For Grade 12 learner Onkarabile Ramogayana, that dream is about to become a reality.
The Curro Soshanguve learner has been selected to participate in the prestigious Tximist Cup 2026 in Spain, becoming one of only two South African female players chosen through a partnership between LaLiga and Shaka Sports.
Her selection follows an impressive showing at the Shaka Easter Soccer Tournament, where she caught the attention of talent scouts through a development initiative designed to create opportunities for promising young footballers.
The tournament, hosted in Hondarribia in Spain’s Basque region, brings together talented young players from around the world and has established itself as a platform for youth development, cultural exchange and international competition.
For Onkarabile, the opportunity is to show others they can also reach their dream.
“I never imagined that playing football at school could take me to Spain,” she said. “This means everything to me, not just as a player, but as someone who wants to show other girls from Soshanguve that this is possible for them too.”
During her time in Spain, she will participate in competitive matches, training sessions and cultural activities alongside players from different countries, gaining valuable exposure to international football environments.
Dr Fannie Sebolela, Executive Head at Curro Soshanguve says her attitude is what got her this opportunity.
“Onkarabile has always had the talent, but what sets her apart is her attitude. She shows up, she works hard, and she earns everything she gets. This selection reflects years of dedication.”
