The Urban Riders junior development programme received a massive donation from EDS Projects changing the lives of 15 children and feeding an entire race day.
The non-profit club Tshwane Urban Riders started the junior development programme. It was started because of serious interest from the community in having a place for the youth ages 10 to 18 to go and cycle.
“We ensure we set the right examples for the youth in our community and those that join our cycling group.”
“The purpose behind the clubs foundation was mostly around social cohesion and recreation as cycling brings different people from different backgrounds, races, cultures and religion together.”
The club is based in Mamelodi. EDS Projects together with Power Foods, contributed in various ways as well as sponsorship’s to the Mamelodi Kasi Cycling Fun Ride event on Youth Day.
EDS helped over 800 riders and spectators to the race. Power Foods had a mobile kitchen that made sure each of the riders had a belly full of warm and delicious porridge.
After the 35km fun race Power Foods set up jumping castles and refreshments while EDS handed out 15 bicycles and helmets to children from the Tshwane Urban Riders junior development programme.
“This donation will go a long way to encourage and develop these children, possibly unearthing a future professional cyclist from a previously disadvantaged Mamelodi Community.”
