More medals in the pool, promising results on the track and impressive gymnastics displays headline another positive day for South Africa.

Glasgow, Scotland (28 July 2026) – Team South Africa’s medal haul continues to grow at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with the swimmers once again leading the charge while athletes and gymnasts delivered encouraging performances across the board.

Swimming: Houlie and Gallagher Add to Team SA’s Medal Haul

South Africa’s swimmers once again led the charge, adding two more medals to the country’s growing tally.

Michael Houlie powered to silver in the men’s 50m breaststroke, touching the wall in 26.77 seconds to continue Team SA’s impressive run in the pool.

Erin Gallagher also climbed onto the podium after claiming bronze in the women’s 100m butterfly, adding another medal to South Africa’s swimming success story.

Athletics: Strong Start on the Track

Franco le Roux came closest to a podium finish after placing fourth in the men’s 110m hurdles final in 13.53 seconds, narrowly missing out on a medal after qualifying comfortably earlier in the day.

In the para-athletics programme, Sheryl James finished eighth in the T38 women’s 100m final after progressing from the heats, while Liezel Gouws narrowly missed out on a place in the final.

Gymnastics: Daries Sisters Shine Again

Daniel McLean produced a superb routine to finish fifth in the men’s floor final, delivering one of Team SA’s best gymnastics performances of the Games so far.

There was also another memorable outing for sisters Naveen and Zelme Daries, who both improved on their qualification performances in the all-around final.

Naveen finished 10th after completing eight clean routines, while Commonwealth Games debutant Zelme secured an impressive 13th-place finish to round off another positive day for Team SA.

Team South Africa heads into another busy day of competition with plenty of momentum. Weightlifting, netball and more athletics action are all on the schedule as the team looks to climb even higher up the Commonwealth Games medal table in Glasgow.
