A mother who lost her baby and a baby who lost his mom have found each other in a heartwarming twist of fate for the two baboon rescues.
South Africa (13 July, 2023)—Almost two months ago, Banjo the tiny Chacma Baboon became orphaned after his mother was killed in the farmlands of South Africa. However, his rescue journey would lead him to form a special bond with a mother baboon who had a banjo-shaped hole in her heart.
Banjo was rescued by the Owl Rescue Centre earlier this year and stole the hearts of South Africans everywhere. Although he’s not a feathered friend, he is one of many animals (feathered or otherwise) that the Owl Rescue Centre has given a second chance. Among them is a female baboon named Nova who had lost her baby recently.
She and Banjo were placed at the same rehabilitation centre which prepares them for release when they’re ready. Here, the pair bonded and it wasn’t long until Mama Nova adopted baby Banjo!
The two will now enter their next chapter as a little family. The Owl Rescue Centre shares that they are preparing to release the two to join a troop within the coming months.
