Historians are calling it a rare glimpse into how teenagers survived before WiFi…
Johannesburg, South Africa (12 June 2026) – Hey Google! The senior school girls at St Andrew’s School for Girls are proving that life without a phone isn’t quite the catastrophe some kids might imagine.
To mark the school’s #NoPhoneChallenge, the girls have starred in a hilarious video embracing all things analogue, poking fun at the idea that teenagers can’t survive without their devices.
Reports indicate several learners were forced to communicate using full sentences and actual eye contact. Sources confirm that at least one learner attempted to ‘refresh’ a calculator for new notifications. She has since recovered.
Film rolls were harmed in the making of this video. No one knew how to rewind them!

The video, inspired by Frisch School and produced by The Film Co, is a good laugh, but there’s a message beneath the satire, too.
In phone-free spaces like the one St Andrew’s is working to create, schools are encouraging students to spend more time connecting with the people around them rather than the screens in their hands. Why swipe right when you can touch grass?
The St. Andrews girls discovered that the group chat can actually meet…in person!
In the end, they survived. They thrived, even. Though the selfie withdrawal support group meets every Tuesday.
